From the Bering to the Baja
According to Garry York, the Nina J. was built in the late 60s by Simon Dennis on Burlo Island in Bamfield. He named it “Princess Pat” after his daughter. It was probably the only boat he built.
I just found better information, in Pat Garcia’s book, “Bamfield, looking Back,” page 98. “The Valpat II was built for Simon Dennis by his father Telford Dennis, helped by Clarence (Wahoo) Cootes. She was built in a shed on Burlo Island and launched on July 16, 1966. Valpat II was named after two of Simon and Nellie’s daughters, Patricia and Valerie.”
